Best Cocktails of January

Start your new year with a bang with these inventive and mouth watering cocktails!

If you’re not over the holiday season yet, whip up this Garibaldi variation named “Hello,” after a song by the Munich indie band, Kytes. It bursts with orange flavors, which is considered a Christmas item in some traditions.

If you want to try something more challenging, look no further than the Isolated Species. It involves a milk-washing technique to strip the drink from its ingredients’ stronger flavors and color, leaving a clear, smooth drink.

On the other hand, the first variant cocktail of the list is the Bitter Juan which uses tequila and Mezcal along with the ingredients of a Bitter Jean. Then, going back to the orange theme, we have the Orange Soul, which also has Christmas in it with its gingerbread aspect.

Moreover, you can never go wrong with a tropical drink like the Sleigh Ride, which incorporates classic tropical flavors, such as rum, pineapple juice, and grenadine syrup. Another classic variation is the French 69, which features elderflower liqueur to add floral notes.

The Green Thumb is another interesting drink that transforms green ingredients into a delightfully cohesive flavor. And speaking of cohesive, the Sayulita features ingredients that don’t typically go together but taste phenomenal once the drink is complete.

The last two drinks, Blackberry Mojito and Blueberry Mule are modeled after popular cocktails and added with the delicious and juicy taste of berries.

Get in the Thanksgiving spirit with these fall-themed cocktails!

The Spiced Orange Vodkatini is a bright twist on an old classic. According to legend, the first time people heard about Vodkatini was when James Bond ordered one. This month's new drinks list includes the Enzoni, a close relative of the Negroni, and the Gin Sour, in which fresh muddled grapes take the place of vermouth.

Try Rhaenyra's Negroni for a unique take on the classic cocktail. It is sweetened with dragon fruit syrup, with a slightly exotic flavor fitting for the true heir of the Iron Throne! Meanwhile, the Toblerone Martini is great for those who wish there were booze in the famous chocolate bars.

A few simple substitutions and a splash of Campari transform the classic Paloma into an Italian-themed cocktail. Campari's signature bitterness pairs well with the other bitter ingredients in this cocktail.

On the other hand, the Gold Metal cocktail is a refreshing drink that combines the floral notes of yellow chartreuse with the herbal notes of maraschino liqueur and the citrusy notes of lemon juice to create a refreshing beverage that is sure to please all the gentlemen.

Blood oranges are in season during winter, making a beautiful addition to holiday cocktails like the Blood Orange Gin Fizz. The Viridescent is another drink to look forward to because it combines green apple and ginger. The grassy flavor of matcha pairs well with the sweet green apple.

Nothing beats a hot drink spiked with cinnamon and bourbon when the temperature drops. This cinnamon-spiced Old Fashioned will brighten up any gloomy day with its citrusy aroma.

Lastly, the Green Swizzle cocktail is a tall and refreshing drink crafted from robustly flavored ingredients. It gained a reputation as mythic during the late 1890s and early 1900s.

  • That’s not an Old Fashioned. Oranges? Lemons? Cherries? Club Soda? No. The Old Fashioned is one of the most venerable of cocktails, predating not only the motor car but the presidency of Abe Lincoln. In 1806 the “cock-tail” was defined in print as “spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters.” Those four ingredients made a cocktail. Over the next 75 years, people kept tweaking the cocktail, hanging ornaments on it. The “old-fashioned cocktail” appeared in print in The Chicago Tribune in 1880, and it was a reference to the original, the “Old Fashioned” cocktail. A cocktail made in the original, old fashioned way. The true roots. Properly made, it’s strong, but not too much, and sweet, but not too much; most important, it’s dead simple to make, and absolutely delicious. So “spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters.” There is a TON of room to play here. Aged Rum, Añejo Tequila, Gin, Cognac, Bourbon, Rye… Simple syrup, Maraschino liqueur, Triple Sec, Curaçao, Maple syrup… Angostura, Regans’ Orange Bitters No. 6, Campari, Peychaud’s But fruit salad and bubbles are not part of it. Might be a fine drink, but it’s something else.

  • Sweet! Very nice.
