I've got a bunch of old wines and getting a cork out can be a real challenge -- this equipment gives the best chance of getting the cork out of a 20 year-old + bottle of wine. I'd recommend one.

The interlocking function works great. I opened a bottle of 1978 Lynch Bages with the cork in pretty bad shape and it pulled it out with no issue. I have a 1976 Latour that I will be opening soon and I highly recommend this, I know the price is kinda high but definitely worth it if you have some older bottles.

I’ve never had a problem extracting a cork from wines 20-35 years old. They always come out intact. This is a must for those who have large, old collections of wine. No more partial cork extractions or filtering fragments of cork through a sieve or strainer.

Promptly removed wine bottle cork that could not be removed by a normal cork removal tool.

The Durand is unpleasantly expensive. Did you catch the phrase "broadly patented" in the description? They had a brilliant idea, and figured out how to get full value for it. Can't complain. Here's why it is indispensable. You have a bottle of old wine. Maybe the cork is in good shape, and will extract freely. In that case, any corkscrew would work. There are two other possibilities, though:1) The cork is weak, and will fall apart when you try to extract it.2) The cork has been essentially glued… to the sides with dried wineYou can't tell in advance whether you have one of these problems, or both, but if you have a Durand, it does not matter. In case 1, the corkscrew part will take a sufficient hold on the cork to prevent the cork from dropping into the bottle when you apply the prongs. In case 2, the prongs can be used to apply a rotating motion that will break the seal, with a strength that an upward pull can never apply. And if you have both problems, the two aspects work in concert to solve them.If you open enough old wine, there is just no substitute for a Durand.

I love that I can open aged bottles without hesitation. First true test was on a ‘76 and again on a very stubborn ‘00 Bordeaux. Expensive, but well worth the price to be sure that broken corks are a think of the past.I enjoy saving the corks of older bottles and wines that special memories of the company I drank them with, so preserving corks is unique way I reminisce on those moments and am appreciative that I can display them on my cellar room ceiling.
