I have read lots of books on cocktails and drinks. This is much easier to read and has interesting historical context for all the recipes it lists. I have made several variations on drinks and loved almost all of them. The author's notes on specific changes to each recipe are very insightful. He lists variations in literature as well as his personal preferences. I'll probably buy this for a few friends this christmas!

Love this effort by David Wondrich, after reading Imbibe, it was exactly what I was hoping for- not only recipes for Punch, but, well researched, explained and detailed compilation!I've tried a few recipes (had to break out the calculator to scale down to managable proportions). Can't wait for David's next Book!

I realized that I have never reviewed this, which is a travesty. Punch is a highly entertaining and informative book to read cover to cover. But then you get to the good part. Armed with your new knowledge, you can riff on the recipes inside endlessly. I love a good cocktail but when I host a party, I don't want to bartend, I want to talk to my friends. So I make a punch using the techniques Dave writes about in this book. They're invariably a hit. I've made punch variations of a Sazerac, Aviat…ion, Old Fashioned, Gin & Ginger, Indian-spiced old fashioned, and others. This book has vastly improve the quality of beverage at the parties I throw. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Great book about the history of Punch! Lots of deeply interesting stories here. There are also many recipes as well/ However, most are historical recipes and not ones you would necessarily want to make and serve today for a party. For example, I made the punch that is associate with Charles Dickens and it reflects its time. It does not contain the ingredients that are readily available now. But it was still interesting to make and sample. So this is not a recipe book for modern times but… rather a historical study, although there are one or two recipes that you will enjoy making and that will please a modern crowd.

A fitting and great followup to his great book Imbibe. Like that, this provides great recipes, great stories, and the interesting background of the history of punches throughout history. If you are into cocktails and spirits, this is mandatory reading. The recipes alone are worth the purchase!
