Details: Product Description From the authors of the bestselling and genre-defining cocktail book Death & Co, Cocktail Codex is a comprehensive primer on the craft of mixing drinks that employs the authors’ unique “root cocktails” approach to give drink-makers of every level the tools to understand, execute, and improvise both classic and original cocktails. JAMES BEARD AWARD WINNER • WINNER OF THE TALES OF THE COCKTAIL SPIRITED AWARD® FOR BEST NEW COCKTAIL OR BARTENDING BOOK • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST COOKBOOKS OF THE YEAR BY CHICAGO TRIBUNE “There are only six cocktails.” So say Alex Day, Nick Fauchald, and David Kaplan, the visionaries behind the seminal craft cocktail bar Death & Co. In  Cocktail Codex, these experts reveal for the first time their surprisingly simple approach to mastering cocktails: the “root recipes,” six easily identifiable (and memorizable!) templates that encompass  all cocktails: the old-fashioned, martini, daiquiri, sidecar, whisky highball, and flip. Once you understand the hows and whys of each “family,” you'll understand why some cocktails work and others don't, when to shake and when to stir, what you can omit and what you can substitute when you're missing ingredients, why you like the drinks you do, and what sorts of drinks you should turn to—or invent—if you want to try something new.   Praise for Cocktail Codex   “Learn the template, and any cocktail you can think of is within reach.” —Food & Wine “Too bad all college textbooks weren’t this much fun.” —Garden & Gun “A must for amateur and pro mixologists alike.” —Chicago Tribune   “If Dora the Explorer turned twenty-one, split herself into three people, and decided to write the Magna Carta of booze books, this would be the result. This is for people that want to elevate their cocktail prowess. It will change how you create and look at cocktails. This is not a beginner level book. Unless you have MONEY you probably won’t make 80% of these cocktails. But if you’re a working mixologist, this is the book for you.

I read this book from start to finish and theirs breakdown of the cocktail mother recipes are great and inspires thought and imagination for one to build on. The more advance cocktails in the book have hard to find ingredients or ingredients that require to be made far in advance as such this not for a beginner but I do think it would benefit beginners who want to take the next step.

Concise info on the difference in rum, whisky, gin, etc. there’s a lot of extra recipes but the way this book is designed really helps bar staff with experience learn to understand balance and begin to create their own. Love this book! Thanks D&Co team!!

Explains the taxonomy of classic cocktails, why they work, and how to improve them, all without the pretentious blather you see in many books.

Bought this for my husband and he absolutely loves it. It currently looks like a college textbook because of all the tabs he has sticking out of it. If you are dedicated to learning the science behind recipes and techniques to creating great craft cocktails this is the book for you.

This is a nice hardcover coffee book that contains cocktail recipes and info about what you can add to change up a cocktail. I bought this book to learn more about alcohol and cocktails and was very pleased.Another book that is also known as a great cocktail coffee table book is “Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails” (2014, cost is $28 for hardcover). Death & Company is a famous cocktail institution that debuted in Manhattan’s East Village in 2007. The book contains 500 recipes and info about t
