The joy of a perfectly sweet and creamy hot buttered rum is hard to beat, but what about whiskey? Choose from robust bourbon or rye for an even more intense flavor profile. Mix with some traditional spices like nutmeg and allspice to make this drink your own!

Ingredients

¾ cup Brown sugar

½ cup Unsalted butter, at room temperature

¼ cup Agave nectar

½ tsp. Ground cinnamon

⅛ tsp. Ground allspice

⅛ tsp. Ground cloves
-
⅛ tsp. Ground nutmeg

1 pinch Kosher salt
-
2 oz. Whiskey
-
1 oz. Hot buttered batter
-
3 to 4 oz. Hot water, to taste

For the batter:
Add all of the batter ingredients to a large bowl.
Using a mixer, combine well for 1 to 2 minutes until all ingredients are incorporated.
Turn the batter out onto a sheet of plastic wrap.
Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until firm.
For the drink:
Get at least a good scoop of the batter and add to a warmer mug or Irish coffee glass.
Add in the whiskey and hot water. Mix well.
Recipe Note
If you want to bring out more spice notes with your favorite cocktail, use a high-proof bourbon or great rye whiskey. If it's not too strong for the taste bud of an unsuspecting drinker in your group then opt for one that has been blended into other whiskies like Canadian whisky!
