Recipe Variations
Ah, the whiskey sour, one of the oldest cocktails that we still know and love today. It was once just a simple cocktail but has grown to be more complex as time went by. Nowadays, a surprising element is added to contribute to its overall appeal, an egg white. That’s right, an egg white freshly cracked from the shell. Though this may seem scary for some, that fear will ultimately fade away as you get to taste it. People love it for its creamy texture, a hint of sourness and its booze.
The whiskey sour dates back to 1862 when it was written by Jerry Thomas in the book, “The Bartender’s Guide” but its inception go way back in the 1700s on naval ships to battle some nasty issues like malnutrition and scurvy. It was a simple recipe back then with just three ingredients: a base spirit, citrus juice and water. Over time, sugar was added to balance the flavors and eventually, the egg white element was incorporated into the whiskey sour cocktail.
The drink became so popular that variations sprouted everywhere, whether using different alcohols or adding some fruit to it. One of which is the peach whiskey sour. The sweetness of the peach really plays well with the tanginess of the lemon and the heat of the whiskey, resulting in a delicious package. A few months from now, specifically on August 25, is the National Whiskey Sour Day so be sure to try this out, or if you can’t wait that long, gather your ingredients and tools and whip it up now!

Peach Whiskey Sour Recipe
This recipe is the complex one where it uses egg white but doesn’t be intimidated by it. It will actually make the texture of the drink frothy and velvety so it looks like the cold version of cappuccino and it won’t taste anything like an egg because the alcohol will take care of that. Also, the lemon will increase the depth of flavor and aroma. It does require more effort to make but it will be very rewarding in the end.
Tools Required
- Cocktail Shaker - Used for shaking cocktails. A tin cocktail shaker works best when handling egg whites.
- Hawthorne Strainer - If a tin Boston shaker is used, a Hawthorne strainer is also used to achieve a smooth texture.
- Fine Mesh Strainer - Used for a double straining with the Hawthorne strainer to catch any egg particles.
- Jigger - A tool used to measure spirits and other ingredients.
- Coupe Glass - A drinking vessel used to serve the cocktail.
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1 oz. Fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 2 oz. Evan Williams Peach Bourbon
- ½ oz. C&H Brown Sugar Simple Syrup (equal parts of brown sugar and water, brought to a boil until the sugar is dissolved)
- Big ice cubes
Steps to Make
- Prepare your shaker tin . Carefully crack the egg and separate the egg white from the egg yolk by rocking the yolk back and forth in its shells.
- Measure the bourbon and lemon juice using a jigger and pour them into the shaker tin. Then, do the same with the simple syrup and add it to the shaker tin.
- Close the shaker tin with the lid and do a dry shake. This is basically shaking the mixture vigorously without ice. Do this for about 30 seconds to get the ingredients fully incorporated and to make the egg white frothy.
- Add ice cubes to the shaker tin to do the wet shake. It is better to use big ice cubes so the mixture won’t get diluted as much and become watery. This will take about 15 seconds.
- Double strain the mixture using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to make sure the cocktail is smooth and free from any egg particles into a coupe glass . Serve.
