Ohio is This Year's Top Wine Destination

There are many different varieties of wine in the world. Some of the most well-known types of red wine in the world come from France including Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. White wine varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc also originated in France. But Riesling, another famous type of white wine, come from the Rhine region in Germany.

If you are a certified wine enthusiast and want to know more about wines, you can also join authentic wine tours in many parts of the world––from Napa Valley in California to the Hunter Valley region in New South Wales, Australia. However, if you couldn’t afford to go to an international wine festival, you can always visit Ohio, which has been named this year’s top wine destination.

Best Wine Destinations

RewardExpert, one of the world’s top travel review blogs online, ranked the best vineyards and wineries in America based on wine production and wine quality. The results were from data collected from over two million wine reviews from CellarTracker, the world’s largest online collection of wine reviews and the Permitted Wine Producers Database of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Alcohol and Tobacco Trade Bureau.

Among the top wine destinations according to the study are Greater El Paso, Texas; Anchorage, Alaska; Sacramento, California; and two regions from New York––Kingston-Hudson Valley and Riverhead-Suffolk County.

Interestingly, Ohio, which is known for its thriving coal industry, was chosen as this year’s leading wine destination. Coshocton is located in east-central Ohio and home to a ratio of at least 1 vineyard per 10,000 residents. The highest rated winery in the list––the Heritage Vineyard––can also be found here.

Heritage Vineyard

Heritage Vineyard, a sprawling winery off the coast of Ohio, produces estate grown, handcrafted French and American hybrid wines. It is not only popular for its wide range of estate wines but also for its gorgeous Heritage Guesthouse where guests can rest and relax after a long day of touring the vineyard.

Among the other amenities provided in the vineyard is a Tasting Room where you can have a taste of its extensive list of wines which are exclusively grown onsite, such as Niagara, Seyval, and Chambourcin. If you want more time to savour your drinks, then you can head to the vineyard’s Patio for a quick breather.

The Heritage Vineyard also offers a Gathering Room suitable for family and social gatherings, if you are on the hunt for a perfect place to host your private event.

After Coshocton, Ohio, the second top wine destination in the study belongs to Easton, Maryland. Compared to Coshocton’s nine wineries, Easton has 23 vineyards for more than 170,000 residents. It has received an average ranking of 94 (out of 100) wines produced per region.

The Kingston-Hudson Valley, New York, on the other hand, ranks third in the list with a rating of 89 out of 100 wineries ranked nationally.

Can’t wait to go on a much-needed country getaway this summer? The Heritage Vineyard is located in Township Road, Warsaw Ohio, a short drive from Central and Northern Ohio.
